With a little less than two months until the opening day of stone crab season, October 15th, we are eager to get back to work and see all of our customers. It has been a long, hot summer full of repairing stone crab traps, building new traps, and working on our boats. When one fisherman needs to pour concrete into new traps, it becomes a group effort with the whole fish house family pitching in to help out. We usually pour about 500 traps at a time. It helps to have all hands on deck because we are in a race against the drying concrete. Stone crabbing is a year round job and requires hard work and dedication. The fishermen are excited to start putting traps in the water on October 5th and even more excited to pull them on the 15th and see how the catch will start out. We hope for a good year, as always. One of our grouper/snapper fisherman is currently in Louisiana catching King Fish, he plans to be back catching our favorites by the holidays but first has to make the journey across the Gulf to get home to us. We’ve done some pleasure fishing over the past few months and have enjoyed fresh mullet and snapper on several occasions. We hope it’s been a great summer and will see you all soon!
